One of the narratives in Las Vegas news lately has been the premise that young people don't gamble. This has led to casinos trying different things to try to get young people interested in gambling.
Skill based slot machines are going to be hitting the floor in 2016. I think skill based machines are exciting and have lots of potential, but only time will tell if they actually catch on.
Another thing casinos are doing is to combine the casino with the nightclub. Last year The Palazzo introduced the Lavo Casino Club which essentially added a few table games to the restaurant and nightclub.
More recently Encore has introduced the Player's Club. This area off the casino floor is essentially a lounge with casino games alongside non-casino games such as pool and bar shuffleboard. Vital Vegas has posted a few photos of the Player's Club.
I think it's a good idea. If young people won't go to the casino, why not bring the casino to them. Someone might not want to seek out a casino gaming experience, but might play if a game is presented to them in a more relaxed environment.

Hyde at Las Vegas Arena
Las Vegas Arena will be getting a nightclub, as it has been announced that Hyde will be opening an 18,000 square foot space overlooking the arena.
A nightclub inside an arena at first seems like an "Only in Las Vegas" thing, but it's not. Hyde already has arena locations at Staples Center in Los Angeles, and at American Airlines Arena in Miami.
Hyde already has a location in Las Vegas - at Bellagio overlooking the fountains. Parent company SBE was involved in the development of SLS Las Vegas before selling off its stake last year.
Even before this nightclub was announced it appeared that the Las Vegas Arena would be one of the most hospitable arenas in the world. You can be sure that if you attend an event at this arena you won't go hungry or thirsty - assuming you're willing to pay.

Foundry Hall coming to SLS
The former Life nightclub at SLS Las Vegas is being transformed into an 1800 seat music venue called Foundry Hall, which will open early in 2016.
A Las Vegas Weekly article detailed the renovation project. The nightclub's DJ booth is being removed in favor of a stage. Audio improvements are being made, while keeping the nightclub's massive LED screens.
Live Nation will partner with SLS to book acts at the new venue, which will be a mix of permanent and standing room only seating.
The new music venue comes at a time when SLS is looking to make major improvements to the property to attract more guests. Last week it was announced that one of the hotel towers will be converted into a W Hotel brand.
SLS is still struggling financially. After reporting third quarter earnings they have lost $122.7 million so far in 2015. Parent company Stockbridge is banking on these improvements to help turn the property's fortunes around.

Jewel Nightclub to replace Haze at Aria
Hakkasan Group has announced a new nightclub. Jewel will open in the Spring of 2016 in the former Haze nightclub space at Aria.
Haze closed almost a year ago and was operated by The Light Group, which itself was later acquired by Hakkasan.
I think Haze was somewhat of a disappointment from the time it opened. It never was able to match the buzz of more popular clubs in town like Marquee or XS. I wonder if Jewel will be more successful in that space.
This seems to be a prime era for nightclubs to be remodeled and renamed. The once popular Pure at Caesars Palace recently reopened as Omnia.
Tryst at Wynn Las Vegas will also be closing to be remodeled and will likely be renamed and reopened around the same time as Jewel.

Cody Saintgnue 1OAK Mirage Incident
There was an interesting article in the Review Journal about an incident that took place involving actor Cody Saintgnue at 1OAK nightclub at The Mirage last June.
Saintgnue is an actor on the MTV series Teen Wolf and has also had parts on Southland, House, and Criminal Minds. In a recent lawsuit he claims that he was assaulted by 1OAK and Mirage security after a dispute about his bill.
Saintgnue was allegedly invited into a VIP area but only stayed there for a few minutes. After leaving that area the nightclub tried to charge him exorbitant fees for entering that area, which Saintgnue refused to pay.
That's when he was escorted out of the club and allegedly told never to return to any MGM Resorts International property. Some of the incident can be seen in the this video:

Tryst Nightclub at Wynn Closing
An article in Vegas Seven a few days ago profiled the upcoming post-Halloween closure of Tryst Nightclub at Wynn. Nightclubs come and go constantly but Tryst was a mainstay in Las Vegas nightlife for 10 years, opening in 2005.
The closing of Tryst comes at the same time that original Wynn restaurants Bartolotta and Botero will be closed and re-branded. It's not too surprising - trendy restaurants, much like nightclubs have a limited shelf life.
Tryst will likely close for a period of up to six months before re-opening under a different name. That same tact was successfully used by Caesars Palace when they closed Pure and later reopened as Omnia.
The new club however will be without the services of Jessie Waits. The former managing partner of Tryst and XS has departed Wynn to work for the new Alon resort. It will be somewhat interesting to see if that has any impact on the success of the new nightclub.

Golden State Warriors Celebrate in Vegas
I always get a kick out of athletes celebrating a big win in Las Vegas.
A few years ago I wrote about Chris Paul celebrating his All Star Game MVP award in Vegas.
This time it's the Golden State Warriors, who recently celebrated their NBA championship.
An LA Times article told the story of Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andrew Bogut, David Lee, Marreese Speights, Harrison Barnes and Justin Holliday living it up at Marquee at The Cosmopolitan.
The article goes on to tell how Barnes continued to party at Chateau Nightclub & Rooftop the next night at Paris Las Vegas.

Jon Taffer Opening Las Vegas Bar
Jon Taffer of Bar Rescue TV fame will be opening a Las Vegas bar in the coming months. Taffer talked about the nightclub industry in a recent three part interview with Robin Leach.
Although the new yet unnamed venue will likely be considered more of a bar than a nightclub, Taffer hinted that the bar would have a dance floor, which would allow it to take advantage of the red hot nightclub market and allow the bar to stay hopping well into the morning hours.
Taffer also seems to think there is great opportunity for new bars to cater to the under served mid-market crowd in Las Vegas. With high priced nightclubs being all the rage lately, the mid-market seems to be ignored somewhat. Taffer thinks giving people a better value would let them make more return trips to Las Vegas.
Viewers of Bar Rescue might not know that Jon Taffer lives in Las Vegas. He was a founder of the Nightclub & Bar Show - one of the largest trade conventions for that industry. The 30th annual edition of the Nightclub & Bar Show will take place in Vegas from March 30 to April 1, 2015.

Chris Paul Celebrates All Star MVP in Vegas
Right after being named MVP at the NBA All Star game in Houston, Chris Paul and his entourage hopped on a plane and headed to Las Vegas. He celebrated at Lavo along with his brother CJ, who was celebrating his 30th birthday.
The most impressive thing about this story is the timing. I think the game ended at around 10:30 central time, and he was able to be in Vegas at the club by 1:00 am pacific. It must be pretty sweet to jet off to Vegas on a moment's notice (although he was probably planning on going even if he didn't win the MVP).

Gronk Sorry for Partying at XS
New England Patriot Rob Gronkowski has been making the rounds on sports news shows and websites. A video surfaced of him dancing shirtless and playfully body-slamming a friend onto his broken forearm at XS during Super Bowl weekend in Vegas.
Now a receipt has surfaced from that same night, which shows Gronk's hefty (although it could be seen as modest by celebrity standards) $9600 bar bill at XS. Highlights include a bunch of $525 bottles of vodka and $11 bottles of water:

Photo: Busted Coverage.
Gronkowski has apparently responded to the controversy by wearing a "Sorry for Partying" t-shirt:

Caesars All Night Pass
Back in April of last year, Caesars Entertainment introduced their Buffet of Buffets deal which allowed you unlimited access to any Caesars property buffet for a 24 hour period.
The promotion was so successful, they followed it up with the All Stage Pass which allowed you to see as many shows as you could within a 48 hour period.
Now they are extending the concept to their nightlife offerings with the All Night Pass. For one low price (currently $44.99 for Total Rewards members, $49.99 for non-members) you will be granted access to seven of the nightclubs at Caesars properties.
The clubs are Pure at Caesars Palace, Chateau at Paris, Gallery at Planet Hollywood, Pussycat Dolls Burlesque Saloon at Planet Hollywood, Crown at Rio, VooDoo at Rio and Carnival Court at Harrah’s.
The pass is available Thursday through Sunday only and is valid on the day of purchase from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Blackout dates may apply.
I'm not really a nightclub person, but I suppose this might be a good deal for those wanting to check out a few different clubs in one night. The selling point is the ability to jump the line and get into the clubs right away. If that's the case it would certainly be a time-saver at some of the more popular clubs.
For more information, check out the Caesars Pulse of Vegas Blog.

Beso taken over by Landry's Restaurants
Eva Longoria's financially troubled Beso restaurant has been taken over and will be bought out by Landry's Restaurants Inc.
Eva Longoria will remain as a partner in the restaurant. Landry's owner Tilman Fertitta issued a statement saying, "Eva created a landmark restaurant at the spectacular CityCenter, and I look forward to working with her as my partner in Beso."
Landry's is a large company which owns multiple chain restaurants. They also own the Golden Nugget casinos. Having the backing of a large company like that means Beso will be in business for a while.
Eve, the closed nightclub portion of the restaurant might even re-open as a result of the new ownership.

1OAK to replace JET at Mirage
In nightclub news, Page Six is reporting that New York hot-spot 1OAK will likely take over the space currently occupied by JET at the Mirage.
While the deal isn't officially in place yet, Daily Fiasco pointed out that JET operator The Light Group has registered the domain name 1OakLasVegas.com, so it appears the new club will be a partnership between The Light Group and the New York owners of 1OAK.
I thought JET was one of the more successful clubs in Las Vegas, so this is kind of surprising to me. Perhaps the opening of Marquee, Surrender, Gallery and the upcoming Hyde has put pressure on The Light Group to make a change.

Carlos'n Charlie's coming to Flamingo
The popular Mexican restaurant and bar chain Carlos'n Charlie's will be opening a location at Flamingo this winter.
The restaurant will be located next to the sportsbook and will feature an outdoor terrace space overlooking the back courtyard area.
I think this will be a nice addition to Flamingo, and should go along well with their other tropical themed restaurant, Margaritaville.
Carlos'n Charlie's is owned by the same company as another premiere Mexican watering hole, Señor Frog's, which is also opening a location in Las Vegas later this year at Treasure Island.

CityCenter - Bad News for Eve and Harmon
Two recent bits of news about CityCenter surfaced in the past couple of days.
The stalled Harmon Hotel building has been deemed unsafe in the unlikely event of a major earthquake. The news is further proof that the Harmon likely will never open, and might be disassembled. MGM and Perini Corp. are battling in court over who's to blame for the debacle.
Eva Longoria's Eve Nightclub has closed, at least temporarily. The club at the Crystals shopping complex has faced financial difficulties from day one. Beso, the restaurant attached to the club will remain open.

Ladies Night is still Legal in Vegas
Good news for female (and single male) party-goers in Las Vegas - "Ladies Nights" are still legal based on new anti-discrimination legislation.
The Las Vegas Sun has a story about the new law that makes it illegal to discriminate based on gender, but allows establishments to "offer differential pricing, discounted pricing or special offers based on sex to promote or market the place of public accommodation."
This is key for Las Vegas nightclubs, which frequently offer free or reduced cover charges for female guests.

Mini Golf Piano Bar coming to Plaza
A bar featuring putt-putt golf and dueling pianos will be opening at the newly remodeled Plaza hotel on Fremont Street. Grand opening is scheduled for Labor Day weekend later this summer.
The nine hole mini golf course will be Vegas themed, and will feature glow-in-the-dark "disco golf" late at night.
The bar will be owned by Las Vegas celebrity hypnotist Anthony Cools. Here's what he had to say about the bar:
"Swingers Club will be unlike anything else in Las Vegas. This isn’t an ultra club with high priced bottle service. Our goal was to create an inviting atmosphere where people can relax and just have fun. They can enjoy the live music of dueling pianos or leading stage acts, socialize with friends over drinks, and maybe meet someone new over a few holes of mini golf. I’m confident that the unique concept of the Swingers Club will complement the fun vibe of downtown and make it a favorite destination for locals and tourists alike."
I definitely like the unique aspect of this bar and others downtown, notably Insert Coin(s). Fremont Street is turning into a pretty fun place to go bar hopping. Not that it wasn't fun before, but these new bars are helping to take downtown to a higher level.
