Planet Hollywood News - Prive Closing - Diamond Lounge Open

Prive nightclub at Planet Hollywood will be closing this weekend. The club had tons of issues while it was open. Off the top of my head there were allegations of underage drinking and illegal drug use. The Living Room lounge, which is owned by the same company as Prive will also be shutting it's doors.

In other Planet Hollywood news, their new Diamond Lounge is now open:

Along with Planet Hollywood’s conversion to Harrah’s Total Rewards system on April 1, they’ve also added a Diamond Lounge. Diamond and Seven Star members plus one guest may visit and enjoy free drinks (including alcohol) and snacks at the Diamond Lounge on the Mexx, near the wedding chapel. Hours are Sunday-Thursday 4-9 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 12-9 p.m.

Harrah's offers All-Day Citywide Buffet Deal

Harrah's is offering a new deal for the buffets at all of their properties.

UPDATE: As of March 3, 2011 the price has risen to $44.99 for Total Rewards members, and $49.99 for non-members. Please check directly with Caesars Entertainment for current pricing.

Visit any of the following buffets, as often as you’d like, within a 24-hour period:

* Carnival World Buffet at Rio
* Flavors at Harrah’s Las Vegas
* Paradise Garden Buffet at Flamingo Las Vegas
* Emperor’s Buffet at Imperial Palace
* Le Village Buffet at Paris Las Vegas
* Lago Buffet at Caesars Palace
* Spice Market Buffet at Planet Hollywood
* Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace (opened September 2012)

Total Rewards members will be able to use their cards, while others will be given a wristband for the 24 hour access.

This looks like a great deal. Other properties have offered a similar 24 hour deal, but this one allows you to go to different buffets, which adds greater variety and flexibility.

Spice Market and Le Village are both very highly regarded, so for them to be a part of this deal is an added bonus. You might want to skip Imperial Palace, but I've had their breakfast buffet more than once, and they actually have a very good omelet station.

Check out Buffet of Buffets for current pricing and more information.

Cosmopolitan to open in December

The much maligned Cosmopolitan is aiming for a December 2010 opening.

Cosmopolitan CEO John Unwin said the hotel's amenities, including 13 restaurants, a spa, nightclub, 150,000 square feet of meeting and convention space and retail stores, would open in mid-December with the casino and the bulk of its 2,995 rooms.

I'm happy to see that Cosmo will definitely be opening. December seems to be a popular time to open a new hotel. The last two major hotels to open in Vegas both opened in December (Encore and City Center). I wonder if the city will be able to absorb that many rooms by then. If not that just means more great rates for the tourists.

Four Arenas Proposed for Las Vegas

Four different developers have proposed new arena projects for Las Vegas. Right now the Thomas and Mack Center is the biggest arena in Vegas, but it lacks modern amenities of current stadiums. Many people want a new arena in Las Vegas to help keep top events in the city such as boxing, UFC, and the Rodeo. A new arena would also be key in attracting a professional basketball or hockey team.

The four proposed locations are:

-Downtown.
-North Strip between Riviera and Sahara.
-Central Strip behind Imperial Palace.
-South Strip near South Point.

Out of these locations I think the North Strip location would probably be best. The North Strip could use something like this. It would provide a much needed shot in the arm for the existing properties over there, along with giving a reason for the former Fontainebleau to open.

Of course, it will be a while before any of these plans gets off the ground. All of the projects will require tax payer money, which might be a big hurdle.
