The Killers and Wayne Newton open Arena

Back in September it was reported that George Strait would be the first performer to open the new Las Vegas Arena in late April 2016.

While Strait will still be doing his shows, the first performance will actually be done by Las Vegas band The Killers on April 6, 2016 according to FOX5 Vegas.

Mr. Las Vegas himself Wayne Newton will be a special guest, and North Las Vegas local Shamir will also be on the show.

It's kind of cool to see an all Las Vegas lineup to open the arena, and ticket prices start at a modest $35 making this arena-opening show affordable for many.

Final Presidential Debate in Las Vegas

The Democratic presidential debate is taking place at Wynn Las Vegas tonight.

Las Vegas will do it all over again a year from now though, as the Thomas and Mack Center on the UNLV campus will host the third and final general election debate on October 19, 2016.

You can bet that having the final presidential debate in Las Vegas will cause some traffic headaches for locals and tourists alike. On the bright side though we might get to see The Midnight Idol, Mr. Las Vegas himself Wayne Newton do more television appearances like this:

Wayne Newton has turned Home into Museum

Five years ago today I wrote a blog post about how Wayne Newton was planning on turning his famous Casa de Shenandoah estate into a tourist attraction.

After half a decade that plan has finally came into fruition. Starting at $35 guests will be able to explore the manacured grounds, encounter horses and other wildlife, and tour a museum showcasing Wayne's cars and showbiz memorabilia.

As I speculated in my 2010 blog post, Wayne's private jet will also be on display - visitors will be able to step aboard to see how Mr. Las Vegas traveled back in the day.

The 52 acre Casa de Shenandoah certainly looks impressive, but I'm not exactly sure this is something I would take the time to visit on a Las Vegas vacation.

For all the info check out Casa de Shenandoah.

Wayne Newton wants to turn Home into Museum

Wayne Newton has been making some headlines over the past couple of days.

First it was reported by TMZ that he had his abandoned jet shipped to his house in Las Vegas and it is now being displayed on his lawn. Apparently the plane fell into disrepair a while back when Newton couldn't afford maintenance. The aircraft sat at the Detroit airport until the powers that be finally made him remove it.

Secondly it looks like Wayne is trying to convert his famous Casa de Shenandoah estate into a tourist attraction. He held a meeting with his neighbors who were reportedly not happy with the possibility. Since the estate is in a residential area, Newton has to file paperwork to get a special use permit which he will likely do soon. The airplane story makes more sense now - he could use the plane as part of the attraction for tourists to check out.

Camp Vegas

Las Vegas is like a summer camp for adults. This is the premise behind the city's new "Camp Vegas" campaign.

Mayor Oscar Goodman, Holly Madison and Wayne Newton were on hand to "Effectively begin summer in The Entertainment Capital of the World almost two months ahead of the rest of the Northern Hemisphere."

As part of the campaign the famous Las Vegas Sign will be changed to read "Welcome to Fabulous Camp Vegas Nevada" which is sure to confuse many unsuspecting visitors arriving by car. The sign will remain this way for the next 36 hours, or until vandals rip it down, whichever comes first.

To cap off the festivities, traffic along Las Vegas Boulevard was stopped as bikini-clad skydivers descended upon the strip. Plans are in the works to also have skydivers at Wrigley Field and Dodger Stadium inviting fans to start their summer early in Las Vegas.
